**DISCLAIMER: i am not a sewing expert and this was my first time ever making a cuddle cup, but hopefully you find these instructions easy and can pamper your piggies with this super easy tutorial. also i found this tutorial online and I'm not trying to steal it, i just want to share this awesome knowledge with other guinea pig lovers**
hi everyone, Mary here! today I'm going to show you how to make your very own guinea pig cuddle cup!
things you will need:
- scissors
- pins
- needle and thread
- quilt batting
- two fabrics of your choice for the inside and outside (I used a cotton-like fabric for the outside and fleece for the inside)
- a sewing machine
start by cutting 11" circles out of your inner fabric, outer fabric and quilt batting |
next, cut 5"x30.5" strips out of your inner fabric, outer fabric, and quilt batting. if you want you can cut a 3-4" notch in the center of all three pieces so your guinea pig can easily hop in and out of the cuddle cup. |
next, pin your outer fabric to the quilt batting as shown. |
be sure to pin it about a half inch from the edge to leave room for a seam. |
next, sew the two short ends together with the good sides facing each other. |
now sew the short ends of the fleece together |
next sew the fleece circle to the bottom edge of the fleece, and the outer fabric and batting circle to the bottom edge of the outer fabric and batting. all with good sides facing inwards. and make sure all the pins are removed from the bottom edge after sewing. |
next, flip the outer fabric and batting circle inside-out and place inside the fleece with good side facing good side. |
and sew the top edge together, |
leaving a 3-4" hole open to flip inside out.
now flip inside-out, |
and hand sew the hole shut. |
and now your cuddle cup is ready for your piggy to enjoy! |
so there you have it, you now know how to make your very own cuddle cup. this tutorial might need to be modified depending on how big your guinea pig is, Esther is pretty large and just barely takes up the entire thing. if your looking for a cuddle cup that will fit 2+ pigs i might do another tutorial in the future of a larger cuddle cup or you can try modifying this tutorial yourself.
if you try this out please send me pics at: the4littlepiggies@gmail.com , I'd love to see how yours turned out! i hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading!
