how to make cleaning your guinea pig cage fun!

Hi everyone! Mary here. I don't know about you but when it comes time to clean my guinea pigs cages I really don't want to. But of course I want my guinea pigs to stay happy and healthy so I've come up with some ideas that motivate me to clean their cages. I hope you enjoy!

1. Listen to music. I found that it makes cage cleaning go a lot faster. You could turn on the radio, listen to an iPod, whatever you want!

2. Reward yourself with something when you're done. I usually think of something fun I want to do and tell myself I can only do it if I clean my guinea pig cages, and it usually works! I like to reward myself by watching guinea pig YouTube videos, some of my favorite channels are Cari's little piggies, Sherwood small pets and the small pet shop. of course not everyone likes to watch videos so you can pick a reward that best suits you.

3. Time yourself. Timing yourself is a really fun way to get the job done fast! you could start with a longer amount of time and then make it shorter each time you clean the cage. I found that the fastest I can do one cage is 10 minutes.

So there you have it! 3 Ways to make cleaning your guinea pig cage fun. Of course there are tons of other ideas out there but these are just what I like to do. I hope you found these ideas helpful! if you have any ideas or suggestions on how to make cleaning your guinea pig cage fun please comment! I'd love to hear from you!

review on small pet select timothy hay

Hi everyone! Mary here, today I'm going to be doing a quick review on small pet select timothy hay! So recently all of the timothy hay from my local feed store has been really brown and my picky pigs only eat the tasty green stuff. So I started doing some research on different hays I could give them and I stumbled upon Small Pet Select Timothy Hay which had amazing reviews on Amazon (over 90% 5 stars!) since it looked like a lot of people loved it, i decided to give it a try.
here is the amazing packaging it came in, i can already smell it!

WOW!! it's really soft and all of it is green and fresh!

Xerxes can smell it, he wants a taste!

as soon as i set him in the box to take some pictures he just starts devouring it!

here's another pic of him enjoying his hay.
so overall i LOVE this hay and i can't recommend it enough. it was a little pricey, 10 pounds of hay for $30 dollars, but for the amazing quality and how much they love it, it was well worth it! i also bought it off of amazon and got free shipping with our prime membership so that was a great deal.
i hope this review was helpful to you and thanks for reading!

how to make a guinea pig cuddle cup! {sewing required}

**DISCLAIMER: i am not a sewing expert and this was my first time ever making a cuddle cup, but hopefully you find these instructions easy and can pamper your piggies with this super easy tutorial. also i found this tutorial online and I'm not trying to steal it, i just want to share this awesome knowledge with other guinea pig lovers**

hi everyone, Mary here! today I'm going to show you how to make your very own guinea pig cuddle cup!
things you will need:
  • scissors
  • pins
  • needle and thread
  • quilt batting
  • two fabrics of your choice for the inside and outside (I used a cotton-like fabric for the outside and fleece for the inside)
  • a sewing machine
start by cutting 11" circles out of your inner fabric, outer fabric and quilt batting
next, cut 5"x30.5" strips out of your inner fabric, outer fabric, and quilt batting. if you want you can cut a 3-4" notch in the center of all three pieces so your guinea pig can easily hop in and out of the cuddle cup.
next, pin your outer fabric to the quilt batting as shown.
be sure to pin it about a half inch from the edge to leave room for a seam.
next, sew the two short ends together with the good sides facing each other.

now sew the short ends of the fleece together
next sew the fleece circle to the bottom edge of the fleece, and the outer fabric and batting circle to the bottom edge of the outer fabric and batting. all with good sides facing inwards. and make sure all the pins are removed from the bottom edge after sewing.
next, flip the outer fabric and batting circle inside-out and place inside the fleece with good side facing good side.
and sew the top edge together,
leaving a 3-4" hole open to flip inside out.

now flip inside-out,
and hand sew the hole shut.
and now your cuddle cup is ready for your piggy to enjoy!

so there you have it, you now know how to make your very own cuddle cup. this tutorial might need to be modified depending on how big your guinea pig is, Esther is pretty large and just barely takes up the entire thing. if your looking for a cuddle cup that will fit 2+ pigs i might do another tutorial in the future of a larger cuddle cup or you can try modifying this tutorial yourself.
if you try this out please send me pics at: the4littlepiggies@gmail.com , I'd love to see how yours turned out! i hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading!

Introducing... Mary's guinea pigs!!

Hi! As you can probably tell from the title I am here to introduce my two darling piggies! But first I'll tell you a little bit about My previous pigs. I was seven years old when I got My first two guinea pigs for my birthday, I named them Diamond and Ruby. After Diamond and Ruby passed away from different illnesses, I started doing lots of research and my parents bought me another guinea pig named Carla. I had had Carla for a year when I read that guinea pigs like to have buddies, so I added Delilah to the family! After that, I saw an add on craigslist for two baby guinea pigs from an accidental litter and they were advertised for free! I just knew I had to get them. So I emailed the owners and pretty soon I had four sweet pigs to take care of :) Recently both Carla and Delilah passed away, so that left me with two. And here they are!

This is Xerxes (zerc-zees). He is a 2 year old male guinea pig.

He is super fluffy! and really sweet. (Please excuse the messy cage)

And this is Esther! She's Xerxes' sister (from the same litter) but they look nothing alike!

She's a black and tan Peruvian. She's a little skittish but very sweet :)

I'm hoping to get a friend for Esther (if my parents will let me :). If you were wondering, Esther and Xerxes do not live together right now. They were living together when I first got them, in August of 2012, and Esther had 2 babies last April! but something went wrong and both of the babies were stillborn. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about me and my guinea pigs. Thanks for reading! ~ Mary
